Comparison - Reebok Ex-O-Fit, Freestyle, Exertion

The shoes being examined

This comparison covers three popular Reebok models:

• Ex-O-Fit male fitness shoe (initially 1980's, recent production)
• Freestyle female aerobics shoe  (initially 1980's, recent production)
• Exertion male fitness shoe (around 2002)

The comparison covers side, toe, and heel views.

Reebok also made the Freedom female aerobics shoe, which is similar to the Exertion... but no pictures.

Available Color Comparison

In 2000, Reebok has dropped back to basic black and white for both models. However, there have been a rainbow of colors that I've either seen or people have mentioned. Both shoes have been available in:

• Black
• Brown canvas ("Workboot")
• Red
• Orange
• Yellow
• Blue
• Violet
• White

Some of the additional Freestyle colors include:

• Pastel pink
• Pink
• Red/black/white striped
• Magenta
• Green
• Pastel blue
• Blue/white striped

Side View Comparison

The Ex-O-Fit has reinforced sides and a single ankle strap. The ankle collar slants down steadily from the toe side to the heel side. There is visible stitching along the toe and the heel.

However, the Freestyle has no side reinforcements and two ankle straps. Then ankle collar rises slightly towards the heel side. There is no visible stitching on along the toe and the heel.

The Classic Exertion has no side reinforcements and a single ankle strap. The ankle collar slants down from the toe side to the heel side. There is visible stitching along the toe, but there is no visible stitching along the heel.
 

Toe View Comparison

• Left (Ex-O-Fit): a flex notch directly below the top eyelet.
• Center (Freestyle): no flex notch.
• Left (Exertion): a smaller flex notch directly below the top eyelet.

Heel View Comparison

• Left (Ex-O-Fit): ankle collar reinforcement and brand name visible from the rear.
• Center (Freestyle): no extra reinforcement, no brand name labeling.
• Right (Exertion): less ankle collar reinforcement, a smaller label..
