My experience with the early Nike Marathon was less than outstanding. Then, I got myself a pair of adidas Dragon sneakers to wear around campus. They were blue with white stripes, nylon with suede side reinforcements... a little
extra construction detail that Nike was willing to forsake in their early days until people complained they fell apart too fast.

I liked them so much that I bought two
pairs when they were originally in production; the first had an outsole without
center nubs in the circles, while the outsole on the second version was (as I remember)
exactly like the adidas SL72 sole. Not only that, I bought the reissues!
